Web-service VEGA makes it possible to perform a broad spectrum of tasks comprising prompt detection and analysis of forest cover change, estimation of three species composition and forests stock volume. VEGA is an effective instrument that allows assessment of forest condition and its resource potential in any region of the Russian Federation territory in the shortest possible time and with minimal cost. Among the potential users of the web-service there are forestry, pulp industry, loan and insurance companies, forest management bodies of various levels, environment protection organisations and research institutions. The satellite service VEGA is created on the basis of the automated technologies of collecting, image processing and distribution of the satellite data developed at Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SRI RAS).
Keywords: satellite service VEGA, long-term data archive, land ecosystem monitoring, forest resource assessment
