Solving many practical problems related to monitoring the Earth’s surface using images obtained from various mobile platforms requires precise georeferencing of the images. A solution to this problem could be georeferencing images using a single well-verified seamless coverage. The seamless coverage of the entire country constructed by Research Center for Earth Operative Monitoring on the basis of images from the Kanopus-V series of satellites is a solution to the problem. The coverage of the south of Primorsky Krai was verified based on reference points obtained with high-precision geodetic equipment. The average georeferencing accuracy was approximately 5 m, with maximum errors in forested, sparsely populated areas with significant elevation changes. A technology for updating the seamless coverage by automatically aligning images with images from Resurs-P satellites is proposed. This technology improves the spatial and brightness resolution of the coverage while maintaining the original georeferencing accuracy. Despite a time lag of several years between the combined images, mismatched survey seasons, and significant differences in spatial resolution, the resulting seamless coverage demonstrated a high potential for merging imagery from both Resurs-P satellites and unmanned aerial vehicles. A comparison of the seamless coverage with individual fragments of orthorectified georeferenced imagery from the Geoton-L1 instruments of the Resurs-P satellites and global coverage from Maxar Technologies Inc. is provided. The potential for subpixel georeferencing of Kanopus-V satellite images is explored to update the seamless coverage and improve its georeferencing accuracy.
