Annual variations in rainfall and temperature define the mountains of Central Asia runoff region's major rivers, which provide water for irrigation farming in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and form the hydropower potential of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan. Dry years lead to large costs in the economy of the Central Asian countries, and several dry years raises the question of regional food security and political stability. In this connection, the remote sensing methods of diagnosis of seasonal minimum of the snow reserves in the mountains of considerable interest. Temporary snowfields size in Tien Shan is most closely related to the seasonal level of solid precipitation in mountainous areas. In dry years, temporary snowfields disappear, and in wet areas to reach significant values. According to the LANDSAT-TM, ETM for years 1998-2011 monitored the seasonal minimum of temporary snowfields size on 60 test sites located within the Trans-Ili Ala-Tau, Kungei Ala-Too and Djungarian Ala-Tau. Obtain a homogeneous series of diagnosing the dynamics of snow cover in mountainous areas during the 1998-2011 years.
Keywords: satellite monitoring, the test site, fotointerpretation, mapping of temporary snowfields, long-term dynamics of mountain snow systems
