Desertification tendency in North-West Caspian region according to MODIS data

New approach in studying dynamics of desertification areas is proposed for the case of North West Caspian region. Desertification areas of natural and anthropogenic origin, with aridisation increased by albedo - precipitation feedback, are identified. Difference in dynamics of desertification areas is detected by comparison data for periods 2005-2009 and 2000-2004 years. Chernozemelsky (Black Soil) area is decreased, while desertification areas in Astrakhan region and Western Kazakhstan are increased and merged.
