The Earth radiation budget (ERB) at the top of the atmosphere (TOA) is a key parameter which measures the energy exchange between the Earths climate system and space. Disturbances of ERB (radiation forcing) determine dynamics of planetary climatic system. Estimations of climate sensitivity based on TOA radiation imbalance are main tool in predicting the global temperature response to radiation forcing. Most projections of future climate scenarios are based on climate sensitivity estimations with respect to various factors. Geoengineering proposals aim to intervene in the climate system by deliberately modifying the Earths energy balance to reduce increases of global temperature.
Keywords: Earth's radiation budget, global warming, radiation forcing, climate sensitivity, geoengineering
