The main features of the mesoscale dynamics over the shelf and continental slope in the Northwest Japan Sea are studied based on satellite infrared images data analyses and numerical modeling. Different characteristics such as scale in time and space, moving direction, and vertical structure of the regular anticyclonic eddies generated in this area and propagated southwestward along the Primorye shelf break are revealed. Evolution of the anticyclonic eddies are described, and their nature is noted.
Keywords: Mesoscale eddies, Japan Sea circulation, topographical Kelivin waves, satellite infrared images
