Validation of the standard bio-optical algorithms by in situ data on the chlorophyll concentration (Chl) and total suspended matter concentration (TSM) measured in the South-Eastern Baltic has shown that the standard algorithms cannot provide the Chl and TSM values with a reasonable accuracy in that region. The extended in situ measurements of spectral radiometric measurements coupled with satellite observations were carried out for development of regional algorithms. The corrected bio-optical algorithms have been derived for the data of satellite scanners MODIS and MERIS which give Chl and TSM concentration with better accuracy.
