Coastal upwelling signatures in the south-eastern Baltic Sea are analyzed using satellite optical and SAR data. Analysis
of combined optical and SAR data has shown that changes of the MABL stratification above SST inhomogeneties
is the main mechanism responsible for temperature front manifestation in SAR for this case. Specific features
of upwelling manifestation in SAR for low incidence angles and different background wind conditions are also discussed.
Keywords: Coastal upwelling, SAR, MODIS SST, the south-eastern Baltic Sea, low incidence angles, near-surface wind speed
