This article describes the main objectives and functionalities of the Forest Fire Satellite Monitoring Information System
of Russian Federal Forestry Agency (SMIS-Rosleshoz), as well as an analysis of the actual systems objectives
and its main modules description. The article also provides an analysis of the lessons learned from the system operational
use and main perspectives of its future development to satisfy the forest recourses monitoring needs.
