GIS-technology of Fire Carbon Emission Assessment using
Terra-Modis Products and State Forest Account data

Forest fire Carbon emissions are estimated on the basis of complex analysis of Terra-Modis burnt
area and forest fire damage products, fire intensity and pre-fire forest fuel loads in study region. The
methodic includes three main stages: pre-fire forest fuel load calculation, fire type and intensity
definition in burnt area and assessment of combusted during burning of forest fuel loads and CO2
account. GIS-technology based on the methodic was developed. Results of forest fire Carbon emissions
in Russian during fire season of 2003-2007.
