The analysis of ionosonde data and total electron content (TEC) variations as deduced from GPS
sites data in the region (10°S - 40°N; 260° - 290°E) during September-October 2005 was carried out to
find the possible ionospheric effects of the strong hurricanes Rita (18 - 26 September) и Wilma (16-25
October) near south-eastern coast of USA. The intensification of TEC variations in the time period range
2-20 min was found in the region of the hurricane activity.
Keywords: hurricanes, GPS, ionosphere, TEC
