The image navigation error of the algorithm developed by Japan meteorological agency for Chinese
geostationary satellite FengYun-2C (radiometer S-VISSR) may be up to 800 km, that is unsatisfactory for many
satellite applications. An automatic navigation method of one pixel accuracy for "full" images received during
one session of S-VISSR2.0 data broadcast is presented. The method is based on the computation of true image
nadir and on the estimation of satellite attitude angles (roll, pitch and yaw). An automatic calculation of ground
control points (GCPs) on the image is used for the computation of the attitude angles (roll, pitch and yaw). A
possibility to forecast the navigation parameters from earlier navigated images is considered and the results of
the application efficiency are discussed. The approbation results of the new navigation method for a 2-month
data set (for 2008 year) received in the Center for regional satellite monitoring of environment of FEB RAS are
presented.
