The article presents a methodology for calculating thermal anomalies based on Landsat satellite data using the Z-Score statistical method (standard estimation method) for the Grib diamond deposit mining area. This method measures the standard deviation by which the temperature in a given pixel shifts from the average background value, allowing absolute temperature values to be converted to a universal scale of statistical significance. Processing long-term data (2014–2023) revealed that persistent maximum positive thermal anomalies are spatially confined to the Grib diamond deposit quarry boundary. Average values characterize the overall level of thermal impact on the entire buffer zone, while minimum values correspond to the least heated areas, which in some years can exhibit negative values, most likely due to local snow cover characteristics and terrain shading. Thus, analysis of surface temperature data confirmed the presence of persistent thermal anomalies associated not only with natural causes but also with mining activities. The proposed approach to identifying statistically significant thermal anomalies using the standard Z-score (Z > 2) in combination with remote sensing data (Land Surface Temperature (LST) Landsat) can be applied as a rapid method for assessing the thermal regime of other deposits in the Arkhangelsk diamond province. A joint analysis of satellite thermal anomalies with ground-based measurements of convective heat flow and radon emission data appears promising. This will allow for a more precise understanding of the contribution of endogenous processes to the formation of the temperature field and improve the reliability of geodynamic safety monitoring in mining areas of the Russian Arctic zone.
