In the context of significant climate change, forest fire hazard assessment is a crucial tool for planning forest fire protection activities. The existing classification methodology that relies on two components, weather condition and natural forest fire hazard, has a number of drawbacks. At the same time, the rapid development of satellite remote sensing methods and meteorological data processing algorithms (such as reanalysis based on modern hydrodynamic weather models) offers opportunities to expand the range of information products utilized. The paper presents a brief analysis of the composition of information required to assess forest fire danger using satellite observations and reanalysis data. On the basis of the developments by the team from Space Research Institute RAS and the capabilities of the IKI-Monitoring Shared Use Center (http://ckp.geosmis.ru/), the analysis has enabled creation of a unique set of products designed to advance approaches to assessing forest fire hazard. The paper presents this set of products.
