Development of agricultural crops in Russia in 2026 based on remote monitoring data

The article presents the results of an analysis of the state of winter and spring crops in Russia in 2026 based on satellite observations. The analysis is based on a comparison of the maximum values of the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) with similar indicators of previous years. It is noted that higher winter wheat yields than the average for the past five years were predicted based on satellite data in many areas of the Republic of Crimea and new regions, in the east of Stavropol Krai, in the north of the Southern Federal District, the south of the Central Federal District, and most of the Volga Federal District. In the remaining regions of the European part of Russia, indicators close to the average for 2021–2025 were expected. Yields of spring grain and legume crops, estimated based on satellite data, were above the average for the past five years in many areas of the southern European part of Russia, in the central and eastern Volga Federal District, in the Ural Federal District, and in the southwest of Omsk Region. Spring grain and legume yields, lower than the 2021–2025 average, were expected primarily in the southern and western regions of Altai Krai, as well as in some areas of the Central Federal District and the northern part of the Southern Federal District. In the other areas, yields were estimated to be close to the average for the past five years. It is noted that in some cases, preliminary harvest results already confirm the findings based on satellite data.
