The study presents an analysis of long-term changes in temperature extremes based on ERA5 daily dataset over the period of 1961–2024. To quantify extreme events, we applied standardized climate indices recommended by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the Expert Team on Climate Change Detection and Indices (ETCCDI): TXx (annual maximum of daily maximum temperature), TNn (annual minimum of daily minimum temperature), as well as the number of days with temperatures exceeding the 90th percentile (hot days/nights) or falling below the 10th percentile (cold days/nights) calculated relative to the baseline reference period of 1961–1990. Statistically significant trends were identified using the non-parametric Mann–Kendall test at a significance level of p < 0.05. The results reveal a significant increase in maximum daily temperatures and a rising frequency of anomalously warm days and nights, accompanied by a marked decline in the occurrence of extremely cold events. These findings indicate an intensification of temperature extremes in the region, consistent with broader patterns of global warming. The study provides a quantitative basis for climate risk assessment and development of adaptation strategies under conditions of changing climate.
Keywords: extreme air temperatures, elevation zones, ERA5 data
