This brief communication is devoted to the 20th anniversary of the International Young Scientists School & Conference on Fundamental Problems in Remote Sensing of the Earth from Space, which has been held annually since 2005 at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the framework of International Conference “Current Problems in Remote Sensing of the Earth from Space”. Information is provided on some historical aspects of the School & Conference and its progressive development over the period since organization to the present time. A key element of the School & Conference is the contest of works by young scientists. A vast majority of the winners of previous years are currently not only active in science but have also achieved notable success in the development and use of Earth remote sensing methods for solving problems in various applied areas and conducting fundamental research. It is noted that methods and technologies for the use of remotely sensed data in various fields are now being actively developed, as evidenced in particular by the growing number and quality of papers presented by young scientists at the conference.
