All-Russia Seminar “Problems in Remote Sensing of the Earth from Space”

This brief report provides information about the All-Russia Seminar “Problems in Remote Sensing of the Earth from Space.” The Seminar has been held since 2021 at Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI RAS). The main prerequisite for organizing the Seminar was the demand for regular discussions of problems, development of methods and technologies for remote sensing of the Earth along with their use to solve various scientific and applied problems. As numerous discussions held during various scientific events have shown, such a seminar is in demand among a wide range of specialists from various Russian scientific and educational organizations, as well as research centers. At the same time, approaches to the organization and technology of conducting distributed scientific forums, which have been actively developing in recent years, makes it possible to establish and conduct the Seminar with participation of specialists, including from geographically remote cities of our country. The main goal of the Seminar is an in-depth discussion of specific problems that is difficult to conduct within the framework of traditional conferences on remote sensing, which are regularly held in Russia. At the same time, the experience of IKI RAS and the available technical capabilities make it possible to ensure that the Seminar is held quite frequently, including informing interested participants, organizing broadcasts and supporting remote access to the results of the discussion. This report includes a description of the purpose and main thematic focus of the Seminar, highlights conducting and participation issues and reviews the experience of conducting the Seminar and the main topics discussed. More detail is provided about the 2023 Seminar sessions. Contact information that may be useful to potential Seminar participants is given.
