The paper refers to the research in the field of mechanical safety of construction structures with a particular regard to monitoring of displacements and deformations of components of complex engineering structures (CES), such as bridges and overpasses, dams, long span structures and high-rise buildings, installations for operation in the Arctic zone, in a shelf zone, and in spacecraft launching sites. Development of information services for high precision monitoring of CES displacements and deformations is based on the use of the service-oriented software architecture and data mining technologies including processing of large amounts of data and in-stream measurements in near real time. Operation of services is ensured by a measuring system, which may include both precision meters of physical parameters that are traditional for this area of study and meters supported by global positioning satellite systems. Besides, operation of services is supported by technologies of emergency simulation in virtual images of CES. The ultimate objective of development of such information services is to provide public agencies and business units involved in maintenance of CES life cycles with data required for assessment of mechanical safety of engineering structures.
Keywords: global positioning satellite system, monitoring of displacements and deformations of engineering structures, failure risk, information service
