Technology for ground processing of data on the stars’ coordinates in order to improve the accuracy of georeferencing Earth images from space

The paper presents the results of work to improve the accuracy of measuring orientation by the BOKZ-M60 star trackers, and georeferencing remote sensing data, obtained from the Resurs-P No. 3 spacecraft due to use of the technology for ground stars’ coordinates processing. The implemented technology involves the transmission to the ground data receiving points of data about the stars’ coordinates on the CCD-arrays of the BOKZ-M60 star trackers. The use of “raw” BOKZ-M60 data, obtained at long intervals of space flight allows to perform flight calibration and measure the instruments distortion, to ensure the rejection of abnormal measurements and to use a refined instruments mathematical model during ground processing of their readings. The technology has shown its effectiveness and has begun its way to routine application in future spacecrafts.
