Test benches for the determination of star tracker photogrammetric parameters

Improving the accuracy of the stars’ coordinates determination is the actual issue for solving modern astrometric tasks. Among the factors imposing certain limitations on the star sensor accuracy there are the lens aberration, the curvature of the photo sensor surface and insufficiently precise star sensor assembly. To reduce the influence of these factors it is necessary to develop test bench equipment for high-precision determination of the star sensor as photogrammetric instrument. For the determination of optical characteristics operation conditions of the star sensor are to be taken into account. In particular, the pressure of star sensor environment has a significant effect. Due to the fact that the star sensor operates in vacuum, the determination of photogrammetric parameters also needs to be carried out in vacuum. The authors have developed a special technique to determine photogrammetric parameters of the star trackers, such as focal length and distortion parameters under normal pressure conditions. The technique also provides for control of the focusing quality of optical system and the determination of the change in the photogrammetric focal length of the star sensor during the transition from the normal pressure to vacuum. The test benches that have been developed for providing these works are also described in the article.
