The paper discusses current capabilities of Forest Fires Remote Monitoring Information System (ISDM-Rosleskhoz) of the Federal Agency for Forestry put into operation in 2005. ISDM-Rosleskhoz enables delivery of operational uniform (comparable) information required for monitoring forest fires and their aftermaths on the whole territory of the Russian Federation. The main purposes of ISDM-Rosleskhoz are providing information and analysis tools for: validation of information on forest fires or danger of forest fire; information support of decision making concerning resources logistics in fires monitoring and firefighting in forest; control of Russian Federation's regional governmental institutions activity in forest fire safety; estimation of forest fire aftermaths. The paper gives an overview of current system's technical capabilities of satellite data processing. Principal satellite data management techniques are described. Features of the system's major remote monitoring data processing blocks and the technologies used for their development are described in the paper. We focus on those features of the system and its blocks that were implemented due to the new achievements of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS IKI) in the field of technologies and methods of remote sensing data processing and analysis.
