VEGA satellite service applications in regional remote monitoring systems

Nowadays remote monitoring satellite systems are one of the most effective means of obtaining information about various natural and anthropogenic objects. This entails rapid development of various monitoring systems devised both for monitoring of specific objects and phenomena (specialized monitoring systems) and for obtaining information about processes over given territories (regional monitoring systems). Experience of development of such systems shows that it is efficient to use the features of existing and operational specialized systems for creation of regional monitoring systems. This paper discusses the features of the VEGA satellite service elaborated to monitor vegetation of Northern Eurasia and its application for the development of regional remote monitoring. The paper describes the basic features of the service which provide the user not only fast and easy access to large volumes of regularly updated data, but with quite sophisticated data analysis tools as well. Also, examples of VEGA application in solving regional problems are demonstrated.
