The urgent for the South of Russia problem of finding estimates of the agricultural crops state is considered using satellite data in conjunction with meteorological observations concerning the wintering conditions of 2011–2012. The area to realize the proposed approach is given by Rostov region divided into municipal terrains. The snow cover state can be ascertained to be the most important for the estimates of the wintering conditions for the cereals provided the needed agronomical technologies are ensured. This is due to the influence of the snow cover state on such life important characteristics of the crops like soil temperature on their root development depth. The use of images from the Terra satellite (MODIS) with the spatial resolution of 1 km was shown to be profitable for the estimates of the snow cover state within the entire Rostov region. The thematic mapping results of satellite data processing by the maintained informative spectral channels based on the specialized software package ENVI 4.3 are represented as maps of the winter crop wintering conditions for Rostov region.
