Utilization of space-based information for monitoring the environmental systems of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir coasts

There is described the experience of utilizing large-scale space images from satellite WorldView-2 in the study of environmental systems of the Tsymlyansk Reservoir coasts in their dynamics under the difficult conditions of year 2011 low water period. Fixing the states of the reservoir coastal zone is carried out resulted from interpretation of images that documented changes in the reservoir appearance when the level is extremely lowered. Transformation of satellite images and coordinate binding has been performed using program QuantumGIS. Maps of shoreline changes are compiled as for the most typical shore sections, estuaries, shoals, etc., and for the entire reservoir.
