The study focused on post-fire tree mortality assessment in Russian forests using MODIS data. The method is based on relationship between in-situ and satellite data in near-infra-red (NIR) and short-wave-infra-red (SWIR) ranges of optical spectrum. Method allows post-fire forest dynamics assessment during given vegetation season in comparison to pre-fire multi-annual data. Method was used for fire-caused tree mortality assessment across entire country for years 2006–2012.
