Problems of detection of coccolithophore blooms from satellite data

A feasibility of quantitative assessment of the intensity of coccolithophore blooms (CB) in the Barents and Black seas from satellite data is studied. The main problem in the Black Sea is influence of river runoff, there is not a such effect on CB in the Barents Sea. The possibility to use the published data on the backscattering coefficients of coccolithophore and coccolith (Voss et al., 1998) is shown, and the algorithm based on these data has been proposed for the Barents Sea
