Investigation of the relief elements orientation statistical description for the elements of different size (scale) is presented. Methodology of the mean relief elements orientation measurement and comparison based on the LESSA technology is described. Analysis results for wide range of scales (50 times) and for different territory is presented. In the different parts of the land and in the analysis windows of considerably different size the same special scales are detected. At passing to those scales relief elements orientation changes appreciably (jumps) more often then at the other scales. Two special scales are confirmed repeatedly. Statistical proof is found for the supposition that orientation jumps are more often if scale changes in 5 times.
Keywords: orientation characteristics, digital terrain map, multiscale analysis, special scales
