Remote sensing of the eddies in the deep ocean
P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology, RAS, 36 Nakhimovsky Pr., Moscow, 117851, Russia
Questions of remote sensing of the located in the deep ocean eddies are considered. Application of a satellite altimeter considerably expands possibilities of the researchers. It appears that satellite altimeter is capable to detect anomalies of the sea surface level connected with location of eddy on the depths about 800-1000 meters. It is shown that is available as well tracking eddy (Meddy for Atlantic Ocean) moving during the long period of time. Results of such tracking are given in the form of a trajectory of Meddy moving in Atlantic Ocean since October 1992г till May 1994г. During this time the observable Meddy moved approximately on 1200 km in the southwest direction.
