This paper deals with the functionality, main problems, main possibilities and the current state of the information system - the satellite service having the work title "See the Sea"(STS). This system is designed and developed in the IKI RAS for the investigation of various processes ond phenomena in the ocean and marine atmosphere on the base of different types of satellite remote sensing data. The STS information system provides scientists with the possibilities to deal with the satellite remotely sensed data as well as with the result of its analysis. The basic technologies are elaborated not only for creating data sets, but also for their analysis, for creation of various processes and phenomena descriptions, for managing data bases and for the use of collected scientific information in the investigation of complicated oceanic and atmospheric processes, their origination and development
Keywords: the satellite data service, the sea surface, oceanic processes, radar data, remote sensing in the IR and visual bands
