The anisotropy of electromagnetic losses at radio transparency sounding of the ice cover Soda Lake Doroninskoe, located in the Trans-Baikal region, at a frequency of 13.7 GHz was observed. The received signal at the horizontal polarization was significantly greater than the signal at vertical polarization. This effect is due to the existence of a large number of capillaries in the ice cover, which are located mainly in the vertical direction. Anisotropy of the losses in the microwave range must be considered in the investigation of remote ice sheets, with high salinity (sea ice, salt water, ice cover).
Keywords: ice cover, microwave radiation, anisotropy of losses
