This work is dedicated to the problem of inversion of X-band radar rough sea surface intensity images to surface elevation maps. The technique is based on the implementation of dispersion relation shell filter and high-pass filter to the complex 3D spectra of radar images` sequence. The method includes also application of empirical modulation transfer function for amplitudes and phases of complex spectral components. Such technique is applied to north-eastern part of the Black sea (Southern branch of SIO RAS) radar data for the first time. Validation of the method was implemented with series of stochastic experiments. Each experiment included modeling of rough sea surface with consequent application of main imaging mechanisms. For grazing incidence tilt modulation and shadowing mechanisms were used. Multiplicative Gaussian noise was also added to the radar images` model. Comparison between modeled data and data reconstructed after modulations gives averaged accuracy around 15% of the significant wave height.
